MARY OWSLEY (1768-1848), daughter of Thomas Owsley III and Mary Middleton.  Married John Bryant (1760-1833). In May 1780, John Bryant volunteered to serve in the Virginia Continental Line under Captain Robert Hughes and served for three months.  In Feb 1781, he reenlisted for six months under Colonel Beverley Randolph, marching from Powhatan County, Virginia to take part in the battle of Guilford Courthouse on 15 Mar 1781.  In the summer of 1781 he marched to near Petersburg under Colonel Robert Goode and served as an orderly sergeant for six months under Captain Isaac Porter whose company was ordered to take charge of all boats from the Point of Fork to Westham on the James River. He applied for a pension on August 20, 1832 which was granted on August 22, 1832 under certificate number 19298.  John died of Cholera in the terrible epidemic that hit Lancaster in 1833. Mary Owsley Bryant applied for a widow's pension on 18 May 1840 which was granted on 11 June 1840, under certificate no. 5501 and she was placed on the Kentucky pension roll at $20 per annum.  (RW File No. W. 8390.)
