A Small Dash of History of Origin

Heaton is an Old English name meaning high settlement. The earliest recorded Heaton, is Randle de Heaton, 1135AD of Heaton-under-the-Forest

The family was centred around the parish of Deane in Bolton near Manchester, County of Lancashire, England which included the townships of Rumworth, Westhoughton,  Over Hulton,  Little Hulton,  Middle Hulton, Horwich, Farnsworth, Heaton, Kearsley, Halliwell

It has been reported Robert Frost, Prince Charles, Lady Diana, Prime Minister Churchhill and George Washington all descend from a Richard de Heaton who died ~1250.

According to the author Edmund Heaton in his book "THE HEATONS OF DEANE"

First records of their land holdings are found ~1140 under King Stephen.  And in a charter of 1199 King John granted land near the River Lune to Roger de Heton. For the next few centuries their land holdings grew substantially. Many of the family were prosperous in the cotton textile industry although they lost the bulk of their landholdings in the 1590s.
