THE HILL FAMILY Transcribed by Scott Hill. THE ORIGINAL GUILDFORD FAMILY (To Conn. in 1639) Elizabeth Jones Hill, wife of Benj. Scranton Hill who moved to New York City in 1839, is the source of both the John Hill information and that of James Hill (1712). John Hill came from England, date 1639, and settled
in Guilford, Conn., died in 1689. His wife was Frances --- who died in
1673. Among their five children was John (1644-1690) who married
Thankful Stow, and had six children. The other son was James (1648) who married Sarah --- and had 9 children. One was Daniel (1691) who, married Mindwe.11 ---and had 7 children. The first son was Reuben (3/1/1716) and another son was James (1735). Reuben married Mary (or Mercy) and they had a son James (1756) ` and another, Reuben Jr. (1747) who married Hannah Scranton. The names of their three children are interesting, being Julius (1774), Electra, and Wealthy. Julius (1774) married Mary A Brown and had 9 children. Curiously there were two sons, one Benjamin Sage and later Benjamin Scranton Hill (date not. recorded) . It was this latter who married Elizabeth Jones and moved to NYC in 1839.
