Coombe Abbey & Hotel

Binley, Conventry

This 12th Century Cistercian Abbey stands on 500 acres of park.  It was appropriated from the Monks in 1539 by Henry VIII.   During this time the stone cloisters were constructed.  In 1603 King James I daughter Elizabeth was sent to the Abbey to be educated.  In 1622 the Abbey was purchased by the Craven family and remained in their possession for 300 years.  Later in 1964 it was purchased by the City Council and the hotel was opened in 1995.
