Tintern Abbey
The Cistercian abbey of Tintern, in River Wye valley of southeast Wales, was founded on 9 May 1131 by Walter de Clare, lord of Chepstow. It was rumored to be at one time the richest in all Wales. But during the time of Henry VIII it had begun to decay and its wealth was appropriated by the king.
The Abbey and its tranquil setting served as the inspiration for Wordsworth's famous Lines.
According to legend some of the former monks still inhabit the abbey.
